Michael Schwartz is a Philadelphia-born chef and partner of The Genuine Hospitality Group. In addition to being a James Beard Award winner, Schwartz is one of the leading figures in South Florida’s restaurant scene. His flagship restaurant, Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is renowned for its casual atmosphere and focus on fresh, local ingredients. Schwartz has expanded his brand to include notable spots like Nemo, Amara and Harry’s Pizzeria, earning national acclaim. All of them are infused with a philosophy guided by the ideas of slow food, local ingredients and down-to-earth cooking.
In our conversation, we talked about Michael’s path into the restaurant world, the challenges of the Miami culinary scene, Schwartz’s approach to create a menu and foster a relationship with farmers and fishermen, the importance of mentoring, Amara and its collaboration with other international chefs and Michael’s vision for the future of the culinary industry.
